What Are Customs Declarations?

When shipping internationally, you’ll be asked to complete a customs declaration when booking your delivery, which includes confirming that your parcel meets all content restrictions and prohibitions.

  • Country-Specific Rules: Each country has its own regulations regarding what can be shipped and who can receive certain items. Please ensure that you are aware of the rules before shipping.

  • Restricted Items: Be aware of items that are prohibited or restricted from import into the destination country.

Content restrictions and prohibitions:

Standard list of Prohibitions for all services:

Dangerous, poisonous or infectious items, explosives, munitions of war, firearms, Corrosives, Acids, Paint removers, Oxidising substances, Organic peroxides, Compressed, liquidised or dissolved gases (especially butane gas lighters or aerosols), Flammable solids or liquids or materials liable to spontaneous combustion, Pints, varnishes, dyes, Radioactive materials (except under licence), Pornography or anything that would cause embarrassment in transit, Living creatures, Proscribed or dangerous drugs (except under statutory licence), Mercury, Materials deemed illegal or prohibited by any Government Authority, Perishable goods, organic or biological materials likely to perish under normal transit conditions, IATA restricted articles – such as liquids (see International Section of the Guide), Items likely to cause injury to any other item or person

Any other items that from time to time may have to be added to the foregoing list are prohibited, unless it has been agreed in writing to carry such items subject to such conditions determined by Asendia.

The following description provided is a general guideline. Independently of the information provided by Asendia, the customer and sender are at all time fully responsible to be compliant with international and national regulations of the destination country.

No Liquid of any kind is permitted.

The following shall not be accepted for delivery:

The objects listed below are forbidden whatever the chosen destination; however, some merchandise may be added to this list, for which import, or circulation are forbidden in a specific destination country. Asendia will not assume responsibility for any mistake or omission concerning these objects since the merchandise list is subject to frequent change.

  • Objects which, by their nature or conditioning, can present a risk for staff of Asendia or are likely to soil or damage the other shipments or the postal equipment.

  • Drugs and mind-altering substances (authorized for shipments with a medical or scientific purpose in the countries where they are admitted)

  • Aerosols: spray paints, solvents, air fresheners, shaving, deodorants, body sprays, hair sprays, etc.

  • Batteries classed as dangerous goods by the latest edition of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Technical Instructions are prohibited. This includes electronic items sent with lithium ion/polymer/metal/alloy batteries, where the battery is not contained in electronic equipment. Lithium/polymer/metal/alloy batteries when sent contained in electronic equipment such as a mobile phone or digital camera are allowed in limited quantities.

  • Perishable biological substances, infectious or not

  • Living creatures, animals and reptiles as well as human and animal remains, including ashes

  • Obscene publications and unlawful indecent images

  • Explosive substances: Any chemical compound, mixture or device capable of producing an explosive or pyrotechnic effect with substantial instantaneous release of heat and gas is prohibited e.g. ammunition, fireworks, flares, fuses, etc.

  • Flammable liquids or solids: this includes mixtures of liquids or liquids containing solids in solution or suspension which give off a flammable vapor, but also solid materials which are liable to cause fire by friction, absorption of water, spontaneous chemical changes or retained heat from manufacturing or processing.

  • Hazardous materials, such as compressed gas, radioactive substances, corrosive liquids

  • Jewellery, precious metals, banknotes, bearer shares, gold or silver and other valuable items
